Doctorate is the highest level of an academic degree one can pursue in India and most other nations. Doctorate program can be earned in any stream. Generally, duration is 3 to 5 years; on completion Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree is awarded. The minimum eligibility criteria to apply for Ph.D programme is master's degree or an equivalent qualification.
