Teaching as a Career in Manipur

Teaching in Manipur is primarily done at 3 levels: school, College and University. To become a teacher in the school level, one has to opt for B.Ed or Bachelor of Education degree which can be done from any recognised colleges or institutes in Manipur. The completion of the B.Ed degree, makes a candidate eligible to work as a teacher in the different secondary and higher secondary schools in Manipur.

For Nursery and pre school teaching, along with a graduate degree, a diploma or Certificate in Pre-school teacher education programme of a duration of not less than one year, or B.Ed is required. Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) or Diploma of Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) is mandatory for teaching at the primary level.

The education department of Manipur has also started holding Teacher's Eligibility Test (TET) for the recruitment of primary and high school teachers.

To become a teacher in the College and University level in Manipur, one do not have to undergo any formal teacher training but have to qualify for National Eligibility Test (NET) or State Eligibility Test (SET). The minimum qualification to apply for NET/SET is a post graduation degree. Qualifying the NET make them eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor / Lecturer etc in any college and universities in Manipur.
